World Premiere, Washington State History Museum, September 2006
Donors, Foss family members, and other guests were treated to refreshments and live music by Hale Bill & The Bopps before the screening of Finding Thea at a special reception hosted by Foss Waterway Seaport home to Working Waterfront Maritime Museum. Local historian Michael Sullivan shared stories on the naming of the waterway and Foss Waterway Seaport's Director Tom Cashman presented roses to the two directors, Nancy and Lucy, before the discussion with the filmmakers, which included Cinematographer / Editor Don Sellers.
Port Townsend Film Festival
The official public premiere of Finding Thea took place on September 16 at the seventh annual Port Townsend Film Festival. The Rose Theatre filled to capacity with many more viewers hoping to attend the screening. Tugboat Annie screened after the documentary as an opportunity to compare and contrast reality and legend. Five films from PTFF traveled to the historic Lynwood Theatre on Bainbridge Island the following week, where another 160 viewers enjoyed the double bill.
Tacoma Film Festival, October 2006
It was an exciting week for Finding Thea's public debut in her hometown of Tacoma, Washington. Between October 6 and 12, Tacoma's inaugural film festival based at The Grand Cinema drew huge crowds and more than 50 films from around the world. Finding Thea screened FOUR times to sold–out crowds and won the "Grandie" for Best Local Film. See article in The News Tribune
